Confluence

An interactive art installation that chronicles the evolution of Portland, Oregon, with an eye for the displaced, dispossessed, and sacrificed people during our history.

Confluence includes a digital, animated map of Portland that becomes a game board for the participants, as well as a wall of physical history, cards with individual stories that can be taken away. For the full content of this history, as we wrote and mapped it, see below.

This installation is available for hire, and can be adapted to a variety of events, including meetings, banquets, galleries, performance events, and festivals. Get in touch at flypapergames@gmail.com!

If you would like to discover more of the history that was compiled for Confluence, you can look at the full, final map here, and the document of the card text here.

Confluence was supported by the Regional Arts and Culture Council, and premiered at the Risk/Reward Festival in June, 2022, at the Armory in Portland’s Pearl District. It was remounted at Risk/Reward 2023 at the Judy in Downtown Portland.
